Synopsis

The book *Living Together in Times of Crisis to Build School Peace, Social-Emotional Well-Being, and Restorative Mediation* brings together research and reflections aimed at understanding and transforming school life in diverse contexts, particularly in rural and socially vulnerable areas of Colombia and Latin America. Its central focus is the creation of educational communities that are more inclusive, share responsibility, and are capable of preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts through pedagogical, social-emotional, and restorative approaches. The chapters address the strengthening of social-emotional competencies in students and teachers, healthy decision-making, inclusion, the prevention of everyday violence, and the transition from punitive disciplinary models toward practices of shared responsibility and the rebuilding of relationships. They also analyze ecological and multilevel factors that influence violence and coexistence, as well as the relationships between families, teachers, and schools. The compilation also highlights the potential of physical activity, sports, music, dance, and cultural traditions as mediators for holistic education, social-emotional development, and the fostering of harmonious coexistence, particularly in rural areas. Furthermore, it examines contributions from interdisciplinary curriculum proposals and reviews Latin American research trends on conflict prevention and inclusion.  The book offers a systemic perspective on school community life: not as the absence of conflict, but as a collective capacity to recognize differences, strengthen bonds, promote well-being, and resolve tensions through dialogue, participation, and restorative mediation, thereby contributing to a culture of sustainable peace in schools. It provides useful guidance for teachers, school administrators, families, researchers, and education policymakers.
