This study reflects on teacher training, taking into account current educational approaches from an epistemological and worldview perspective. To this end, a search was conducted for available information on the topic using the indexed databases Scopus and eLibro. Keywords were employed to locate texts that would lead to the acquisition of the knowledge necessary to achieve the stated objective. This exercise established four elements of analysis: 1) epistemological and philosophical foundations of education; 2) worldview and axiological foundations of the educational process; 3) didactic, cognitive, and logical foundations of teaching; and 4) problematization and critical perspectives of contemporary education. The study concludes that a starting point for effective teacher training and professional development could be systematization as a means of producing scientific knowledge distinct from empiricism.
